Climb the mountain without breaking a sweat: chugging along alpine meadows and through lush forests on the rack railway built in 1892, you approach a breathtaking panorama under your own steam. Good to know:
- Please note that if you buy tickets in advance (in the webshop or at the ticket office), the seat guarantee costs an additional CHF 8.00.
- The Brienz Rothorn Railway is a historic steam rack railway. Therefore the capacity for guests is limited and on nice summer days there can be either longer waiting times or even that all trains are sold out. To avoid these inconveniences, we recommend that you buy your ticket incl. seat guarantee in advance. This gives you direct access to the platform and a guaranteed seat on the desired train: ticketshop.
- In the event of a high volume of guests or technical failure of a steam locomotive, diesel locomotives may be used in guest service.
- Our compartments offer space for eight people. When there is a high volume of guests, we use the available capacity.
- Please note that the steam train causes noise and steam.
- Important note for SBB Ticktes digital and analogue: SBB tickets, whether in paper form or in the app do not work at our turnstiles. You must present the ticket at the counter and you will be given access. Buy your ticket directly at our counter or in our ticketshop.

With public transport, you can travel more sustainably, without stress and without worrying about parking, and benefit from a 20% reduction on the Brienz – Rothorn return journey. More information on the offer and booking options can be found on the SBB website.
Unlimited rides throughout the whole season: the BRB season ticket is available for adults at CHF 350.00 and for children at CHF 30.00. The season ticket is valid on all timetable trains (except for special trips / evening trips).
All children below the age of 6 years ride for free. Please note that the steam train causes noise and steam and this can cause stress for small children. A seat a bit further from the locomotive is recommended.
One dog per person rides for free, each additional dog costs CHF 10.00. Please note that the steam train causes noise and steam and this can cause stress for your dog. A seat a bit further from the locomotive is recommended.
- Brienz Guest Card: 20% on the normal fare / 10% on the Half-Fare or Swiss Travel Pass fare
- Camping Card Berner Oberland: 20% on the normal fare / 10% on the Half-Fare or Swiss Travel Pass fare
- Berner Oberland Pass: With the Berner Oberland Pass you travel free of charge on the Brienz Rothorn Railway. Guests with a Berner Oberland Pass are advised to purchase a seat guarantee online on the desired departure time to ensure they are seated on the desired departure: Webshop.

We can transport people in hand wheelchairs on appointment. We cannot take electric wheelchairs or oversized wheelchairs with us. Also, we cannot take any aids with a motor with us (similar to Swisstrac) as these are very heavy. However, these aids may be parked free of charge at the station in Brienz. The person in the wheelchair is lifted into the wagon by “manpower” because the incline on the platform does not make it possible for us to set up a ramp. It is therefore necessary if helpers from your side accompany the person so they can lift the person into the wagon and also provide support on the way in an emergency situation (train failure/change of train on the route). Arrived at Rothorn Kulm, the steeply rising path (tarred) to the restaurant has to be mastered (approx. 100m). The restaurant is barrier-free and also has a wheelchair toilet.
