Sustainability

The more than 130-year history of Brienz Rothorn Railway is the result of the care that generations have taken of it. We see it as our responsibility to continue caring for the generations of tomorrow and are committed to sustainable tourism.

Swisstainable sustainability program

The Brienz Rothorn Railway is part of the Swisstainable sustainability program and is classified as level 2 - engaged. The Swisstainable sustainability programme brings together companies and organizations across the entire Swiss tourism sector. With our participation, we commit ourselves to continuous sustainable corporate development, pursue measures in the area of sustainability and thus make a concrete contribution to sustainable Swiss tourism.

Swisstainable from Switzerland Tourism

Entering a new era

We live in the age of sustainability and the pandemic has intensified the desire for authenticity, closeness to nature and prudent consumption. No other destination embodies this zeitgeist like Switzerland. We have always been careful to strike a harmonious balance between the needs of our guests, the local population and the environment.

We want to and will strengthen this attitude in the future and also communicate it to our guests. To this end, we have launched an effective movement together with the entire Swiss tourism industry with the Swisstainable sustainability strategy.

With Swisstainable, we are taking an important step to ensure the long-term success of Switzerland as a destination and to make Switzerland the most sustainable destination in the world.

The three levels of the Swisstainable program

Anyone who joins the movement and participates in the program can use the Swisstainable signet. Depending on the requirements and level of commitment, we have divided the program into three levels.

From 2023, the Swisstainable program will also be available for entire destinations. As with the basic operational program, various criteria will determine the level at which the respective destination is classified.
