Immerse yourself in the unforgettable experience of a footplate ride that leaves nothing to be desired. Experience at first hand how the oil-fired locomotive is prepared for use. Our guide will share his extensive knowledge of the fascinating technology and eventful history of these impressive machines with you. The highlight of the cab ride is undoubtedly the one-hour ride in the footplate of the steam locomotive, where you can feel the power and rattling of the engine directly under your hands. We offer two start times per day.

The return journey is included in the price. The minimum age for a cab ride is 18 years.
You are welcome to take up to 10 accompanying persons with you. These accompanying persons are welcome to accompany you on the depot tour and will be seated in the carriage directly at the locomotive. Tickets for accompanying persons are paid for at the ticket office. Please let us know in advance if and how many people will be accompanying you.
After the meeting point, you will be given stoker clothes that are allowed to get dirty. Shoes with a good profile are recommended (e.g. hiking boots).
Important Information
The steam locomotive cab ride on the Brienz Rothorn Railway a unique and exciting experience. As long as you behave appropriately and follow the safety rules, the ride is safe. However, failure to follow the safety rules can result in danger.
The cab ride takes place while standing in the cab of the steam rack-and-pinion train. The route features a significant gradient; in addition, passengers should expect heat, noise, vibrations, and smoke emissions in the cab. These conditions place specific physical demands on participants: a head for heights, a steady footing, and sufficient physical stamina are required. Cardiovascular and respiratory systems must be able to handle the strain.
People with serious health conditions, particularly those involving the heart, circulatory system, or central nervous system (e.g., epilepsy), as well as people under the influence of medications that impair reaction time, narcotics, or alcohol, should refrain from participating. If you take medication regularly, please consult a doctor before participating.
Throughout the entire ride in the driver's cab, the participant will be Brienz Rothorn Railway by a Brienz Rothorn Railway staff member and instructed on the applicable safety rules. The staff member's instructions must be strictly followed at all times. Improper behavior can result in serious injury.
